Dreams, Decisions, Destinations, and Destiny

Many people feel that they are destined to fail. They believe that everything is stacked against them and that there is no way that they can ever be successful. Whether they are trying to get a great job, make a lot of money, find the right person to love and love them, or just enjoy life, they know that the deck is stacked against them.

Honestly, if someone has reached such a low point that they actually believe that, it can be very difficult to turn their thoughts around. However, many of us reach such points in our lives but still think that somehow, some where, in some way, we can triumph over whatever has been holding us back.

If you are reading this, then hopefully you are someone who still believes that there is a chance...and there is!

We all have dreams, but dreams don't have a lot of power for most of us. We need something more substantial than just "what if", and "if only" to get to some better place.

While I do not intend to belittle dreams of what could be, there's not a lot of difference between dreaming of becoming president, winning Olympic gold, or hitting the next "pick 3" lottery.

Dreams do come true occasionally without much effort on the part of the dreamer, but in most cases, it is going to take intentional and targeted action to translate a dream into reality.

Even a lottery winner had to go to the store to buy the ticket, and probably even had to work at some kind of job to earn the money to buy the ticket.

However, a dream is just the beginning.

In order to achieve our goal, we must make strong decisions, and effectively implement them, in order to get there.

our goal is our destination, and in our lives, we may have many destinations and have to make, and implement, many decisions to help us get there. Many people have a little bit of trouble grasping this, but any trip will easily illustrate the point, especially if you are getting yourself there, as in your own car.

You have to have an idea of where you are going. You have to have transportation to get you there. You have to have a map to guide you. You have to have some understanding of operating the vehicle you are using, reading the map which is guiding you, and attending to necessities along the way...meals, pit stops, and motel reservations, for example.

While some trips are short, simple, and easy. Some will require some calculation and planning to reach the goal...i.e. destination. Some will present opportunities to accomplish other goals as well, for example, visiting Mount Rushmore on the way from Chicago to start a new job in Portland, Oregon.

Different people may actually choose different paths to reach the same destination. In some cases, they start from different points, or perhaps have different "dreams", places they want to visit or routes they want to take along the way. One might not even realize that another route exists other than the one they choose.

In the long run, those who know where they want to go, plan on how they will get there, and work consistently to reach their destination will be the most successful.

Those who assume that "destiny" will do with them as it will, will find that they are correct, but will also learn that destiny is not very rewarding, unless it is tamed and turned to the will of its master...you.
