The One Objection You MUST Overcome

Announce any major decision to friends and family and then sit back. What's going to happen? People are going to start coming up with objections.

They will tell you all the reasons it won't work, why it's not a good idea, what the negative outcomes might be...the list goes on. Most of us have encountered this at one time or another.

Most of us can, if we wish, look at each objection objectively, think it over, maybe do a little more research, and eventually answer it. Often, these objections are either groundless or can be worked around in some way.

Many, however, will bend to the weight of the objections raised by others, even if those objections are unfounded.

There is a good reason for this.

Most of us have doubts about our own abilities to accomplish difficult things, or even change the course that we are presently following. Our own doubts and objections more often serve to derail our hopes and dreams than those of others. They just add weight to the negative feelings we are already experiencing.

Obviously, choosing unrealistic and/or impossible goals can only increase the certainty of these objections being confirmed.

However, if we know that we can truly accomplish, even if with a great deal of effort and maybe not exactly as originally imagined, some particular goal, we should not let the objections of others, or, more importantly, our own objections, stop us from success.

The most important objections to overcome rise from our own expectations of failure.

Failure is a common step encountered by many who have become successful. The classic example of this is Thomas Edison, who came up with a workable solution for the electric light bulb after hundreds of "failed" attempts. At any point, Edison could reasonably concluded that the task was impossible, or not going to happen on his watch, but he honestly believed that he could eventually find the solution, and he was willing to endure the failures to achieve the success which he knew awaited him if he only persevered.

If you are a normal human being, you will almost certainly face personal doubts when attempting almost any new or difficult task. However, if you truly believe that the goal is possible, and is worth the effort, you should work past the objections of all, including those of your most important critic...yourself.

Hello Donovan, I am a new writer for this site, I have read one or two of your articles,
Well done, and well said, "The one objection you must overcome" went straight in to the bone, not in any negative sense, but because its what I have been doing forever, its only now I hear I am not alone, and it is a known factor.
I suppose it is self doubt that led me to feel this way, but now I shall develope the method, and use it with more conviction safe in the knowledge that I am following a well trodden path.
I shall read on, and when I gain more info, I shall let you know.
Thanks again, Chris
